Most had projected an Australian punter to go in the later rounds of the draft, and it has happened. Lachlan Edwards, a punter spotted kicking a ball around the park in Melbourne has just been picked up by the New York Jets in the seventh round.

It is fantastic news for a player that has gone from the local parks of Ballarat, Victoria Australia to the big city of New York.
Asked by AussieFaithful on his hopes for the draft Edwards likened it to a giant game of poker.
This whole process is a poker game no one really shows their true intentions – Lachlan Edwards
Well the intentions are now known, with the Jets using their first seventh round pick on a punter who broke records for the longest punt, highest single game average and most punts in a season for his college Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Asked by AussieFaithful last week what it is like to be caught up in the pre-draft process, Edwards showed the attitude that will stand him in good stead as he competes for a starting spot this season.
it’s a crazy and tiring ride but all you can do is your best and they will come knocking eventually – Lachlan Edwards
Lachlan becomes the third punter on an NFL roster, and the second in New York besides Brad Wing at the Giants, and Jordan Berry at the Steelers.
