It looks like the Jarryd Hayne sceptics were right. Unfortunately for former Australian 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne, his journey to the Rio Olympics is over. Hayne today has announced the end of his Olympic dream as the Fiji sevens coach Ben Ryan informed Hayne there would be no spot for the Hayne Plane in Rio.
Rio dream over
Hayne made an official announcement on his Facebook account this afternoon to confirm the decision, and despite not fulfilling yet another ambitious goal, clearly has enjoyed the experience.
Where to now?
The question now for Hayne fans, is where to now?
Most are picking Hayne to return back to his roots and play for his former club Parramatta in the National Rugby League in Australia. With recent losses to the club, Parramatta have the budget now to make a play for the two-time Dally M (player of the year) winner.
The question is where his heart, and his faith take him, the driving force behind his move to the NRL, and his attempt to make the Fijian Rugby 7’s squad for Rio.
It was always a long shot for Hayne to make a side who have won back-to-back world championships in a sport that only roughly resembles the sport he has grown up with in Rugby League.
The bigger (and slightly fanciful) question on AussieFaithful’s mind? Does Hayne want to bring those American Football skills to the NGL?
@JarrydHayne ever considered NGL Australia? God bless ya
